The property was fantastic – Craig, May 2023

It had pretty much everything you could want. The house was clean, the beds were very comfy and overall it felt very spacious. Most of our time was spent round the large dining table playing card games or in the lovely wood-fired hot tub. If anyone speaks of staying near Bala or Dolgellau in general, I would definitely recommend a stay here. Just one point would be that it would be very helpful (and safer) if there was a small outside light illuminating the hot tub.

We had an amazing stay – Sophie, July 23

Our teenagers loved the games room and we all enjoyed the hot tub. Property was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with decent sized mugs and plenty of crockery so washing up not needed every time up had cuppa. Cycle route 8 runs directly in front of the garden which is paved and you are close to Cod y Brenin for further off road biking. Very close to Cadir Idris if you like a challenging but beautiful walk. The Mach loop is practically on the doorstep so fabulous for aircraft spotting. My tips (not criticisms) are take plenty of dishwasher tablets, a guide book for walks/ordinance map and some kindling. We would love to go back!

Outstanding Stay – Gray B, June 2023

Gwengraig is a beautiful period property nestled below Cader Idris and whatever direction you look in you get stunning views. The farmhouse itself is a wonderful four bedroom cottage with sitting room, dining room with an amazing inglenook fireplace, kitchen with everything you'll need provided and a downstairs shower room and laundry room. Upstairs are four bedrooms, all of a very good size ( and extremely comfy ) with a large bathroom with toilet and a separate toilet. Outside is a woodfired Hot tub and a games room ( pool, table tennis, and darts ). The garden at the rear of the house is a great space to sit around the picnic table in the evening when the sun is going down, but my favourite place is the front step looking out at those views. I've stayed in many places around mid and north Wales and as of writing this Gwengraig has topped them all. The area itself is a great base for cycling, walking, climbing and even watching Jets that occasionally fly through the mach loop. I managed to climb Cader Idris while I was there which is only a five minute drive from the property. I'm trying to think of a negative but I honestly cant. My stay was in the summer but I look forward to staying in the winter too. Excellent Cottage set in an amazing location. A thank you to Richard who was always on hand if I needed anything and for putting this Cottage up as a rental property, We loved it!

Loved it – our 2nd lengthy stay

We stayed for two weeks last year due to our trip to Indonesia being cancelled and the same happened again this year and fortunately it was free so we booked again. Just about to leave today and we are quite sad as we really relax here and make the most of the outdoors and area here. We loved it so much last year we actually moved house and our new house was bought this in mind as to what we wanted. There are some quirks here that you need to understand as it is an old house, it is not a turn key perfect new home, the door sticks, things creak, the kitchen tap has a Mind of it’s own - all things we love about this property. Again the only criticism is the mattresses, every bed in them house needs a new mattress - even a memory foam will do for basic comfort without big expenditure. We had to put more than one mattress on top of one an other so it didn’t feel like we were on the floor but we love the place that much it didn’t stop us from coming even knowing this from last year, Richard as always was great, quick to respond to initial enquiry and popped by on the 2nd night to make sure we were all ok, Great home, great location and great stay and will will be back as there are more adventures to be had in their beautiful area. 😁

Beautiful farmhouse in idyllic location – Clare H, Aug 2023

Amazing old farm house in the most beautiful location. Everything you need in the property, all mod cons with the added benefit of origional farmhouse features. Comfy beds, plenty of space for the 6 of us. Hot tub was very easy to use and the views are outstanding. Gas bbq was a bonus. Beautiful big garden which the dogs loved. Nice viewing area with panoramic views of the mountains. Great location about 10 mins drive from town, surrounded by beautiful walks. Even has a fishing lake and we were lucky enough to catch a rainbow trout. Fantastic base for loads of activities. Host extremely helpful whenever we needed them. About 30 mins from the beach. Would highly recommend this property its beautiful

Really nice self catering cottage at the entrance of machloop, loads of sheep, plenty hiking trails.... and planes of course.

Absolutely stunning location with an uninterrupted view of Cadair Idris. Perfect location if you are looking for privacy and solitude, like walking, fishing, cycling and the outdoors! It gets very dark so ideal for star gazing on a clear night and by day a bit of plane spotting. Situated along the Mach Loop on a fine day you might see a jet or two zoom past. An ideal location to explore all that Snowdonia National Park has to offer and the beautiful Welsh Coastline.

This period property is beautiful and beautifully situated for everything you want to do. The cottage itself has four bedrooms, a main bathroom with toilet and a separate toilet. Downstairs are the sitting room and a dining room with an amazing inglenook fireplace. The kitchen is large and well set out with everything you'll need. There's also a downstairs shower room with toilet and then a laundry room. The cottage itself is in a raised position so the views from all rooms are stunning. The area the cottage sits in has its own beauty and you cant help but relax there but it is also perfectly situated within easy access of all local attractions, if its climbing, walking, cycling, fishing, even plane spotting as it sits within the Mach Loop. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area.

Didn’t want to leave so we didn’t!

Loved it so much we didn’t want to leave.... so we didn’t. We spoke to Richard and as the week was free we stayed a few more days. Very large farmhouse that sleeps 7 (we were only two people) and in a great rural location on a working farm but not far from anything. House has been updated in places compared to the pictures. There is no games room anymore but other parts of the house have been updated and looked after which is great. 1 x king size four poster bedroom, 1 x double bedroom, 1 x twin bedroom and 1 x single bedroom - all very large and clean 1 x shower room, 1 x full bathroom both with toilets and a separate toilet so amazing for a large family. Very cosy and large comfortable living room with seating for 7, log burner and free view and a large dining room with log burner, dining room table for 8 but also two chairs and a 2 seat sofa. Large usable kitchen with small tv and all basic mod cons needed and loads of cutlery and dishes for a large family. Separate utility room which we used for washing and bike storage. Outside is two picnic benches and a wood fired hot tub and some outbuildings used for storage and not in use. The view is to die for, surrounded by sheep and cows, the views of the mountains are stunning and there is a fishing lake on site also (we walked around but did not use). If you are looking you will see fighter jets and lots of military aircraft doing low manoeuvres through the valley almost daily which was amazing to watch as they are banking and low flying so if you are outside you can practically see the pilots as they fly right past the windows in front of the house, Whilst we stayed her for just over two weeks we went cycling, climbing, paddle boarding, kayaking, walking, visited castles, towns, villages, did puzzles, relaxed, went shopping, zip lining, quarry carting, tree climbing, Forrest roller coaster and sooooooo much more - we really packed it in. Just over an hour away: Mount Snowdon Conwy and castle Caernarfon and castle Anglesey and Menai straights Llandudno 30-60 minutes away: Zip world x three sites Betts y coed Porthmadog Portmeirion Harlech and castle Under 30 minutes: Bala lake (water sports) walking and train Coed y Brenin (bike, walking and running trails) Barmouth (beach) Corris craft centre Centre for alternative technology King Arthur’s labyrinth 5 minutes away: Dolgellau village (local shops, pubs) Cader Idris mountain Cross foxes pub (excellent food - need to book) On the door step: Cycle route 8 Walking trails Positives: Large and clean house Peaceful but nearby everything All basics needs met and easy to use (oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine etc) Charming, rustic and charismatic Excellent views Loads of available activities Warm and lots of private space Excellent host Negatives: Difficult to find first time (you can see on the hill but there is no sign post in the road so is a farm gate that drives into a field and up the hill) once sussed on arrival easy to use but is three gates so must make sure they are closed for the farmers and the agriculture - didn’t bother us one bit Mattresses in double rooms are coming to the end of their life so will need replacing soon. Other than that - this place is my dream home in Feb welsh mountains and somewhere I aspire to be able to retire to In a number of years.. Can not wait to come back again soon. ❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful farmhouse – Wendy, Sept 21

Lovely place to stay, lovely & clean, spacious, the best views, saw F15 fighter jets training doing the Mach loop, saw eagles & an owl swoop down early evening in the garden, caught a trout from Richards lake, excellent walking around. Thank you Richard & family for a lovely holiday
